Trump Sets Deadline for Iran Nuclear Agreement, Warns of Escalation

Trump warns Iran that failure to strike a meaningful nuclear deal could lead to serious consequences.

U.S. President Donald Trump escalated pressure on Iran on Thursday, warning that “bad things” could happen if Tehran fails to reach a meaningful nuclear deal with Washington amid growing regional tensions and a significant U.S. military buildup in the Middle East.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of his newly formed Board of Peace in Washington, Trump acknowledged ongoing negotiations with Iranian counterparts but insisted that substantive progress must be made soon. He suggested that the next “10-15 days” could determine whether diplomacy succeeds or whether the United States might take further action, including military options.

Trump reiterated that the U.S. position is aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, a stance he said is essential for peace and stability in the broader Middle East. “We have to make a meaningful deal,” Trump said, adding that past efforts to negotiate with Iran have proven difficult but necessary.

The president’s remarks come as the U.S. has deployed additional warships, aircraft, and other military assets to the region, heightening global concern about a potential confrontation. Russia has warned against an unprecedented escalation of tensions, and Iran has conducted its own military drills with Russian forces while insisting its nuclear program is peaceful.

While Trump said current talks in Geneva have been “good,” Tehran has not yet agreed to key U.S. demands, including curbing uranium enrichment and dismantling parts of its nuclear infrastructure. Iranian officials maintain they are prepared for diplomacy but have resisted broader concessions on missiles and regional alliances.

Global observers and diplomatic partners have urged both sides to avoid miscalculation, noting that any conflict in the Gulf could have far-reaching impacts on energy markets, security alliances, and international relations. For now, the world watches closely as the deadline for a breakthrough — or further escalation — approaches.
