Trump Claims Fresh US-Iran Doha Talks Possible, But Tehran Rejects Assertion

Trump signals Doha talks; Iran denies negotiations are planned.

A fresh contradiction has emerged between the United States and Iran over the possibility of renewed nuclear talks, with US President Donald Trump announcing that negotiations would take place in Doha while Iranian officials denied that any meeting had been scheduled. The conflicting statements have added to uncertainty surrounding diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions between the two countries.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran had requested fresh talks with the United States and said a meeting would take place in Qatar's capital. "Iran has requested a meeting. It will take place tomorrow in Doha!" he wrote. Speaking later, Trump described the proposed discussions as "perhaps important, perhaps not," while reiterating that Washington's primary objective remained preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

"The meeting in Doha is going to be perhaps important, perhaps not. We're going to find out... It's really very simple. It's the denuclearization of Iran. We don't want them to have a nuclear weapon — and they're not going to have a nuclear weapon," Trump said. His remarks underscored the US administration's continued focus on Iran's nuclear programme as the central issue in any future negotiations.

However, Iranian officials rejected Trump's claim, stating that no talks with the United States had been planned in Doha. Tehran's denial highlighted the persistent lack of coordination and deep mistrust between the two sides, which have remained at odds over Iran's nuclear activities, sanctions and broader regional security issues. The conflicting narratives have cast doubt over whether any formal diplomatic engagement is imminent.

Relations between Washington and Tehran have remained strained despite intermittent efforts to revive dialogue in recent years. The latest exchange comes amid continued international concern over Iran's advancing nuclear programme and the future of diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. While Trump signalled optimism about a possible breakthrough, Iran's categorical denial suggests that any progress toward renewed negotiations remains uncertain.
