Tragic Suicide in Police Station! Teenager Found Hanging

Teen’s Tragic End in Kerala Police Station Sparks Outrage

A chilling incident unfolded at Kalpetta police station in Wayanad, Kerala, where 18-year-old Gokul from Ambalavayal was found hanging in the station’s toilet on Tuesday morning. Detained in connection with a minor girl’s disappearance, Gokul’s death has raised serious questions about police oversight and custodial safety.

According to authorities, Gokul and the missing girl were traced to Kozhikode and brought to Kalpetta station late Monday evening. The girl was moved to Sakhi, a state-run women’s shelter, while Gokul was held overnight for questioning.

Police clarified he wasn’t formally accused, but his detention was linked to potential POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) inquiries. Around dawn, Gokul requested to use the toilet. When he didn’t return, officers forced the door open, only to find him hanging by his shirt. Despite a swift transfer to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident has ignited public fury, with many questioning how a detainee could take his life under police watch. Gokul’s family and locals demand answers, alleging negligence. District Police Chief Taposh Basumatary assured a thorough probe, but skepticism lingers.

This tragedy echoes broader concerns about custodial deaths in India, spotlighting the need for better monitoring and mental health support for detainees. As investigations unfold, Gokul’s death serves as a grim reminder of the fragility of life—even behind bars.
