A devastating collision between a speeding Scorpio jeep and a motorcycle near Benila village in Madhya Pradesh’s Anuppur district claimed five lives and left three others injured on Monday morning. The accident, which occurred around 10 a.m. on National Highway 43 near Jhiriya Tola, has left the local community in shock, with police investigating the role of reckless driving in the tragedy.
According to Ramnagar police station in-charge Sumit Kaushik, the jeep, traveling from Jhiriya Tola toward Beliya, struck a motorcycle driven by Amrit Lal Chaudhary, who was heading to Marwahi for band work. The impact shattered the motorcycle, killing three riders—Shubham Ahirwar (17), Rahul Kevat (21), and Sourabh Pradhan (18)—on the spot. The jeep driver attempted to flee, but lost control, causing the vehicle to swerve 100 meters, crash into an under-construction house, and overturn. Two jeep occupants, Pushpendra and Ghasiya, succumbed to injuries during treatment at Bijuri Hospital.
Three others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kotma’s community health center, with support from local police and Dola Nagar Parishad’s sanitation workers. The deceased were identified as residents of Beliya Chota and nearby Urtan, with post-mortems conducted at Kotma and Bijuri hospitals.
