TN CM Stalin Mediates Maran Brothers’ Sun TV Feud
Stalin urges peace in family dispute
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has urged DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran and his brother, Sun TV Network chairman Kalanithi Maran, to resolve their dispute over the company’s share transactions amicably, a reliable source confirmed Thursday. The intervention follows Dayanidhi’s June 10 legal notice accusing Kalanithi of fraudulently allotting himself 60% of Sun TV’s shares in 2003, without approval from majority shareholders, including their mother Mallika Maran and the Karunanidhi family, during their father Murasoli Maran’s terminal illness.
The notice, also sent to Kalanithi’s wife Kavery and six others, alleged financial misconduct, including a Rs 3,498.8 crore undervaluation of shares and Rs 5,926 crore in dividends reaped by Kalanithi until 2023.
Sun TV countered on June 20, stating the transactions, from when it was a private company, were legally vetted. Reports suggest Stalin, with Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin and journalist N. Ram, mediated a truce, potentially involving Rs 800 crore and Chennai land for Dayanidhi, though details remain undisclosed. No official confirmation has come from the brothers, but the settlement aims to protect the DMK’s image ahead of the 2026 elections.
