Three Held In Maharashtra TET Paper Leak Case Over Rs 1.5 Crore Question Paper Scam

Police arrest three in Maharashtra TET paper leak investigation case.

Three people have been arrested in Maharashtra for allegedly attempting to sell question papers for the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for ₹1.5 crore, police said. The accused were apprehended in Bhiwandi after the police laid a trap based on specific intelligence about an alleged plan to leak examination papers ahead of the TET scheduled for June 28. A case has been registered against five individuals, including two who remain absconding.

According to the police, the case was registered at Kongaon Police Station in Bhiwandi on June 27 under relevant provisions of the law. Acting on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhiwandi, a special team comprising an Inspector, a Sub-Inspector and Assistant Sub-Inspectors carried out an operation to catch the suspects in the act. The investigation was launched after authorities received information that confidential TET question papers for subjects including Hindi, Marathi, Social Science and Mathematics were being offered for sale before the examination.

The complaint was filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Vibhav Ramdas Chumbhle, who stated that police received credible information that a group of individuals had obtained the TET examination papers and intended to sell them. The suspects were expected to arrive at Dongarali, near the Pipeline area in Bhiwandi, to finalise the deal. Based on the tip-off, the police team reached the location along with two independent witnesses and initiated a covert operation.

To gather evidence and catch the accused red-handed, police officers posed as prospective buyers interested in purchasing the leaked question papers. The operation was conducted on the Thane-Nashik Highway near Dongarali, where the suspects allegedly arrived to negotiate the sale. The police then moved in and arrested three of the accused on the spot. Investigators are continuing efforts to trace the remaining two suspects who are currently absconding.

The case has raised fresh concerns about the security of competitive examinations in Maharashtra, particularly teacher recruitment tests that attract thousands of candidates every year. Authorities are investigating how the accused allegedly gained access to the confidential examination material and whether a larger network was involved in the attempted leak. Police are also examining electronic devices, documents and other evidence seized during the operation to determine if any candidates or intermediaries were connected to the alleged racket. Further investigation is underway, and officials have indicated that additional arrests cannot be ruled out as the probe progresses.
