Three British Airways Cabin Crew Treated in Hospital After Consuming Cannabis Gummies

Three British Airways cabin crew members were hospitalised after consuming marijuana-infused gummies given to them by a passenger following a flight from London Heathrow to Los Angeles last week. The airline confirmed that the incident occurred after the aircraft had landed and the crew had disembarked, ensuring there was no impact on in-flight safety.

According to reports, the crew members consumed the gummies while travelling on a bus to their hotel after the transatlantic flight. The sweets reportedly contained up to 300 milligrams of THC, the primary psychoactive component of cannabis. Shortly after ingestion, the staff began experiencing severe discomfort, with some describing sensations akin to an “out-of-body experience,” along with panic and loss of control.

By the time they reached their hotel, three crew members required medical attention as their symptoms worsened. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment and later recovered. British Airways arranged for a replacement crew to operate the return flight to London, while the affected staff were flown back to the UK the following day as passengers.

In a statement, British Airways said, “A small number of our crew reported feeling unwell at their hotel and have since recovered. We sent a replacement crew to operate the return flight, and there was no impact on our customers.” The airline has launched an internal inquiry and is reportedly seeking to identify the passenger who provided the gummies.

Sources indicated that while passengers occasionally offer sweets to crew members as gestures of appreciation, the matter is being treated seriously. Authorities could pursue legal action if it is determined that the edibles were knowingly distributed without proper disclosure, particularly given the potential safety implications had the substances been consumed during the flight.
