Three Arrested As Punjab Police Seize Grenades, Pistols In Arms Module Case

Punjab Police arrests three suspects in arms module case.

Punjab Police has claimed to have dismantled an illegal arms and explosives smuggling module with the arrest of three people and the recovery of six hand grenades and 12 pistols. The operation was carried out by the Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of a suspected weapons consignment.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the arrested individuals have been identified as Chintu, Jobanpreet Singh, and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, all residents of Kakkar village in Amritsar. Police said the suspects were allegedly involved in transporting arms and explosives intended for illegal activities.

According to the police, the recovered items included eight .30 bore pistols, four 9 mm pistols, six hand grenades, and nine live cartridges. Officials also seized a Hyundai i20 car, which they alleged was being used for transporting the consignment. The recovery was made after police intercepted the vehicle near the Bharatmala Bypass Highway on the Amritsar-Chogawan Road.

The DGP said a preliminary investigation indicated that the accused were allegedly operating on directions from a foreign-based smuggler. Police claimed that the suspected network had links with Pakistan’s ISI and overseas-based operatives of Babbar Khalsa International, and alleged that the group was planning activities aimed at disturbing public order in Punjab.

Police officials said the CI Amritsar team received information that the accused had recently collected a consignment of arms, ammunition, and explosives from the Ajnala area. Acting on the intelligence, teams established a checkpoint and stopped the vehicle, leading to the arrests and recovery of the alleged weapons cache.

A case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said the investigation is ongoing to identify additional members of the network and trace both the forward and backward links connected to the alleged smuggling operation.
