Thief Posing as Disabled Caught Stealing iPhone in Kanpur Hospital

Swift Arrest in Hospital iPhone Heist

A daring theft at Hallet Hospital in Kanpur was foiled within an hour when police arrested Mohammad Faiz, a 30-year-old man who, disguised as a disabled patient, stole a junior doctor’s iPhone on August 20. The incident, captured on CCTV, sparked swift action by Swaroop Nagar police, leading to Faiz’s apprehension within 60 minutes.

CCTV footage shows Faiz, dressed in a shirt and shorts, limping into the hospital lobby with a walking stick and a fake prescription. As he passed two doctors, he deftly slipped his hand into a doctor’s coat pocket, concealing the stolen iPhone under his arm before exiting. The theft occurred around 2 PM, unnoticed until the doctor realized the phone was missing and alerted authorities.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Shravan Kumar praised the team’s quick response, stating, “The CCTV footage was crucial in identifying and arresting the suspect.” During interrogation, Faiz confessed to using disguises, including posing as a disabled person, to commit similar thefts across Kanpur. Police recovered the stolen iPhone and are investigating whether Faiz is linked to other hospital thefts reported in the city.
