Tesla Electrifies Delhi with New Aerocity Showroom Opening

Tesla’s Delhi Showroom Opens with a Bang

Tesla has expanded its footprint in India with the grand opening of its second showroom in Delhi’s Worldmark 3, Aerocity, near Indira Gandhi International Airport, following its Mumbai debut in July 2025. The 8,200 sq ft Tesla Experience Centre, leased for nine years at Rs 17.22 lakh per month with a 15% rent hike every three years, showcases the Model Y crossover, imported as a completely built unit (CBU) from China. This marks a significant step in Tesla’s mission to bring electric mobility to India’s capital.

Tesla Model Y: Variants and Performance

The Model Y is available in two India-specific variants:

  • Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD): Powered by a 60kWh battery, it offers a 500km range (WLTP), accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 201 kmph.
  • Long Range RWD: Equipped with a 75kWh battery, it extends the range to 622km, achieves 0-100 kmph in 5.6 seconds, and matches the 201 kmph top speed.

Both variants feature 19-inch crossflow alloy wheels and support Tesla’s V4 Supercharging, adding up to 267km of range in just 15 minutes. The Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, priced at an additional Rs 6 lakh, offers advanced autonomous features, pending regulatory approval.

Pricing and Features

  • Pricing: The RWD variant starts at Rs 59.89 lakh, while the Long Range RWD is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Optional paint finishes, like Pearl White or Ultra Red, cost up to Rs 1.85 lakh, with Stealth Grey as the standard color.
  • Interiors: The minimalist cabin, available in black or white (white at Rs 95,000 extra), features a five-seat layout with heated seats for both rows, ventilated front seats, a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch rear touchscreen, a 9-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, and a powered frunk. Safety includes multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a built-in dashcam.

Booking and Delivery Details

Customers can book the Model Y through Tesla’sofficial India portal or at showrooms in Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram. An initial payment of Rs 22,220 is required, followed by a non-refundable Rs 3 lakh within seven days. Deliveries are expected to begin in Q3 2025 for the RWD and Q4 2025 for the Long Range RWD, with registrations currently limited to Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram.

Tesla’s Growing Presence in India

The Delhi showroom follows Tesla’s rapid expansion, including a 33,000 sq ft combined sales and service centre in Gurugram’s Orchid Business Park, leased at Rs 40 lakh per month. On August 4, Tesla launched its first Indian Supercharger station in Mumbai’s BKC, featuring four V4 stalls (250kW DC, Rs 24/kWh) and four AC Destination Chargers (11kW, Rs 14/kWh). Plans for eight additional Supercharger sites underscore Tesla’s commitment to building a robust EV ecosystem.

The launch has generated buzz on X, with users like @TechBit praising Tesla’s “game-changing entry into India.” However, high import duties, which nearly double the Model Y’s price compared to global markets, have sparked debate about affordability. Tesla’s arrival aligns with India’s reduced EV import tariffs (from 100% to 70% for vehicles over $40,000), signaling a push for electric mobility.
