Telangana Police Probe Son’s Death After Alleged Attack Over Property Sale Row
Property dispute allegedly ends in a family tragedy.
A 60-year-old man has been arrested in Telangana’s Khammam district for allegedly murdering his 35-year-old son after a prolonged dispute over the sale of the family’s house. According to police, the accused, Kothapalli Seetharamulu alias John Mark, wanted to sell the property to obtain money, allegedly to support his alcohol addiction. However, his son, Kiran Kumar, and wife strongly opposed the decision, leading to frequent disagreements within the family. Police believe the property dispute ultimately escalated into a planned act of violence.
Investigators said Seetharamulu had repeatedly asked Kiran Kumar to leave the family home so that the property could be sold without resistance. When Kiran refused, the accused allegedly decided to eliminate him. On the evening of July 3, police said Seetharamulu took his son to a local liquor shop, where both consumed alcohol. After returning home, Kiran reportedly fell into a deep sleep due to intoxication, creating an opportunity for the alleged attack.
According to the investigation, Seetharamulu allegedly struck his sleeping son on the head with a grinding stone, causing severe injuries. Believing his son had died, the accused allegedly fled the scene in his auto-rickshaw. Family members later discovered Kiran Kumar critically injured and immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. Despite medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries. Kiran is survived by his wife, Vijaya Lakshmi, and their two children.

Following the incident, police said the accused escaped to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh in an attempt to evade arrest. Acting on reliable information, a police team tracked his movements and intercepted his auto-rickshaw on Monday before taking him into custody. During questioning, Seetharamulu allegedly confessed to the crime. Officers also seized the auto-rickshaw, the grinding stone believed to have been used in the attack, and a knife in the presence of mediators as part of the investigation.
Police said the complaint was lodged by Vijaya Lakshmi, the victim’s wife, after the incident. Circle Inspector Muthulingam stated that the investigation indicates the murder was allegedly premeditated and rooted in the ongoing family property dispute. The accused was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Police have confirmed that further investigation is underway to establish all aspects of the case and complete the legal process.
