Telangana Man Injured In Mob Attack Dies During Treatment, Probe Underway
Telangana man died after being injured in a mob attack linked to an alleged crime.
A 28‑year‑old man identified as Teja, who had slit a woman’s throat in full public view after she rejected his romantic advances, has died from injuries sustained in a mob attack that followed the killing. The incident occurred in Jadcherla town in Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district on Saturday, May 16, and Teja succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jadcherla on Sunday, according to local police and media reports.
Police said the victim, 21‑year‑old Y Vaishnavi, a receptionist at a private school in Jadcherla, was returning from work when Teja attacked her with a knife on a public road. The assailant allegedly slit her throat, causing grievous wounds, and she was rushed to a nearby hospital where she later died despite medical efforts. Authorities have described the killing as the culmination of a prior pattern of harassment and stalking by Teja, who had reportedly been troubling Vaishnavi after she spurned his advances.
As the attack unfolded, passersby intervened and caught the man at the scene. Witnesses said locals tied his hands and pelted him with stones before police arrived and took him into custody. He was then shifted to Mahabubnagar Government Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors treated him for head and body injuries caused by the mob assault.

Teja’s death on Sunday has raised questions about the sequence of events and the role of the mob, even as police emphasise that he had already been arrested in connection with Vaishnavi’s murder. Law‑enforcement officials have registered a case of murder against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are continuing an investigation into the entire incident, including the circumstances of the on‑spot attack and the extent of crowd involvement.
The case has sparked intense local debate about gender‑based violence, stalking, and extrajudicial vigilante action. Women’s rights groups and legal observers have warned that, while public outrage over such slayings is understandable, mob attacks risk undermining due process and can themselves amount to criminal acts. Police in Mahabubnagar have ramped up patrols in Jadcherla and urged residents to report any threats or harassment immediately, rather than taking the law into their own hands.
