Tamil Nadu Tragedy! Family Wiped Out as Speeding Lorry Smashes Car

Family Wiped Out: Speeding Lorry Smashes Car in Tamil Nadu, Killing Three

A devastating collision claimed the lives of three family members on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, when a speeding lorry plowed into their car on Tamil Nadu’s GST Road near Singaperumalkoil.

The victims, identified as Ayyanar, 65, driver Saravanan, 35, and one-year-old Sai Velan, perished in the early morning tragedy, leaving the community in shock.

Police reports indicate the family was returning to Madurai from a function in Chennai when their car halted at a traffic signal around 1:30 AM IST.

A tipper lorry, barreling from Chennai toward Chengalpattu, rammed into the stationary vehicle, crushing it against a container lorry ahead. Ayyanar and Saravanan died instantly, while Sai Velan succumbed to injuries at Government General Hospital in Chengalpattu. Three other passengers—Karthik, 35, his wife Nandhini, 30, and their seven-year-old daughter Ilamathi—survived with injuries and are under treatment.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic rescue effort as onlookers and traffic police battled to free the trapped family from the mangled wreckage. The lorry driver fled, sparking a manhunt as authorities probe the cause—early signs point to reckless speeding.

Tamil Nadu’s roads have seen similar horrors: a 2023 Cuddalore crash killed five when a lorry hit a car on a highway under construction. With over 1,53,000 road deaths nationwide in 2021, per the Ministry of Road Transport, this latest loss underscores the state’s grim toll. For now, a shattered family mourns, and a signal light stands as a silent witness to their fate.
