Tamil Nadu Man Killed By Son-In-Law Amid Ongoing Divorce Dispute

Man shot dead by son-in-law during child custody dispute in Tamil Nadu.

A man was allegedly shot dead by his son-in-law following a dispute over child custody amid ongoing divorce proceedings, police said, in an incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community in Tamil Nadu.According to officials, the accused had been living separately from his wife, the victim’s daughter, as the couple was in the middle of a divorce. Tensions between the two families had reportedly been escalating for some time over the custody of their child, with disagreements turning increasingly confrontational in recent weeks. Police said the issue had become a major flashpoint between the families.

Investigators said the confrontation turned violent when the accused got into a heated argument with his father-in-law, identified as Ravi, outside the latter’s residence. After the initial altercation, the accused allegedly left the scene, only to return shortly afterward armed with a country-made firearm. He then reportedly opened fire at close range, critically injuring the victim.

Local residents rushed to the spot upon hearing gunshots and immediately took the injured man to a nearby government hospital in Ambur. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The body has since been sent for a post-mortem examination, which officials said will help establish further details surrounding the cause of death.

Police have launched a manhunt to track down the accused, who fled the scene following the shooting. Multiple teams have been deployed to locate him, and authorities said they are examining all possible angles, including prior complaints or disputes between the two families. Officers are also recording statements from witnesses and relatives to piece together the sequence of events.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the potential for domestic disputes to escalate into violence, particularly in cases involving separation and child custody battles. Authorities have urged individuals facing such conflicts to pursue legal avenues and mediation rather than resorting to confrontation. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken once the accused is apprehended.
