Supreme Court Keeps CBI Case Alive Against Lalu Yadav In Land-For-Jobs Matter

The Supreme Court  has refused to quash the Central Bureau of Investigation  proceedings against Rashtriya Janata Dal  chief and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the alleged land-for-jobs scam linked to his tenure in the Railways.

The case pertains to allegations that appointments in the Indian Railways  were made in exchange for land parcels or transfers of property during the period when Yadav served as Railway Minister. The CBI has been investigating claims that irregularities occurred in recruitment processes in violation of established norms and procedures.

In its order, the apex court declined to interfere at this stage of the proceedings, effectively allowing the investigation and related trial process to continue. The court’s decision reinforces the principle that charges involving corruption and abuse of office must be examined through the trial process rather than being terminated prematurely.

The CBI has alleged that multiple appointments were made in exchange for land transfers either directly or through family members, and that procedural safeguards in railway recruitment were bypassed. The agency’s chargesheet includes allegations of criminal conspiracy and misuse of official position.

The ruling adds to the long-running legal challenges faced by Lalu Prasad Yadav, who has been a central figure in Bihar politics for decades. The case will now proceed in accordance with trial court directions, with further hearings expected in the coming months as the investigation continues to be examined in detail.
