A fatal road accident on National Highway-31 in Bihar’s Khagaria district early Friday morning claimed the life of Raju Mandal, a prominent student leader and district president of a local political party. Three other passengers sustained serious injuries in the collision, police said.

The incident occurred near the Pasraha police station area when the car carrying Mandal and his companions was struck by a speeding truck. The force of the impact mangled the vehicle, killing Mandal instantly at the scene.

The three injured individuals were initially treated at Gogri Sub-Divisional Hospital before being shifted to a private facility for advanced medical care due to the severity of their injuries. Authorities confirmed that all three remain in critical condition.

Police have taken Mandal’s body for post-mortem and launched an investigation into the accident. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and driver negligence may have contributed to the collision.

The death of the young student leader has sparked widespread grief across political and social circles. Party members, students, and local leaders expressed sorrow, highlighting Mandal’s active engagement in student politics and his contributions to community initiatives.

Khagaria district has seen multiple recent road accidents due to overspeeding, including three incidents earlier this week that claimed five lives, intensifying public concern over road safety and enforcement on National Highway-31.
