Court Denies Bail; SP MLA Paras Remanded to Custody in 2020 Knife Attack Case

Paras Remanded In 2020 Attempt-To-Murder Case

A special MP-MLA court in Bijnor rejected the bail plea of Samajwadi Party MLA Manoj Paras on Tuesday, ordering his immediate imprisonment in connection with a 2020 attempt-to-murder case. Paras, a former minister and the current MLA from Nagina, was accused alongside other party leaders of attacking a villager, Chhatar Singh of Raseedpur Garhi, with knives on Jhalu Road on September 29, 2020.

According to Additional District Government Counsel Jitendra Chauhan, Singh filed a complaint detailing the assault, leading to non-bailable warrants being issued against Paras. The MLA appeared before Judge Shantanu Tyagi on Tuesday, where his bail application was denied, resulting in his remand to jail.

This development marks another legal setback for the Samajwadi Party, following recent arrests of its members in various cases.
