Sons Buy Krait Snake for Rs 1.5 Lakh to Kill Father for Rs 3 Crore Insurance Money
Sons in Tamil Nadu use venomous krait snake to murder father for Rs 3 crore insurance payout.
What initially appeared as a tragic snakebite death has turned into a chilling case of murder in Thiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. Police allege that 56-year-old government school lab assistant E.P. Ganesan was killed by his own sons, Mohanraj and Hariharan, in a calculated attempt to claim ₹3 crore from multiple insurance policies.
Ganesan, a resident of Podaturpet near Thiruthani, was found dead in October, with his sons reporting to the Podaturpet police that he had succumbed to a snakebite while sleeping. A case was registered, but investigators became suspicious upon discovering that the deceased held 11 insurance policies, including four in his own name, raising red flags.
The investigation gained momentum after an insurance company lodged a formal complaint with North Zone IGP Asra Garg, highlighting irregularities in the claims submitted by the two sons. This prompted the police to launch a thorough probe into the circumstances of Ganesan’s death.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Gummidipoondi DSP Jayashree interrogated the accused, and after sustained questioning, the sons allegedly confessed to planning and executing the murder. Police said they had enlisted four friends—Balaji, Prashanth, Naveen Kumar, and Dinakaran—to carry out the crime.
Investigations revealed that the first attempt involved a cobra bite, which failed to kill Ganesan. Undeterred, the accused later procured a three-foot-long common krait for Rs 1.5 lakh, a highly venomous species. The snake was forced to bite Ganesan on the neck while he slept, leading to fatal paralysis of vital organs. The perpetrators reportedly killed the snake afterward to destroy evidence.
All six accused have been arrested, and police have seized a luxury car and six mobile phones as part of the investigation. Authorities confirmed that one of the accused was skilled in handling snakes. Further inquiries are ongoing to trace financial transactions and identify any additional conspirators linked to the plot.
