Six Killed In Head-On Collision Between Two Cars In Chhattisgarh’s Kanker

Six people, including a child, were killed and three others critically injured in a head-on collision between two cars on National Highway-30 in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday night, police said. The accident occurred near Nathiya Nawagaon village under Kotwali police station limits, leaving both vehicles extensively damaged due to the impact.

According to Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakhecha, the victims died on the spot because of the severity of the crash. He confirmed that the deceased included three women, two men, and one child, while three others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kanker Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary information suggests that a family from Udkuda village in the Charama area was returning from a wedding in Chivaraj village when their car collided head-on with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. Police said most of the victims were travelling in the same vehicle at the time of the accident.

Emergency response teams and local police reached the site shortly after being alerted and carried out rescue operations. The injured were evacuated to hospital by ambulance, where doctors said they remain in critical condition under close medical supervision.

Officials stated that both vehicles were allegedly speeding at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to the loss of control and the fatal impact. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, while further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Authorities said statements from the injured survivors will be recorded once their condition stabilises, which is expected to provide clearer details about the sequence of events leading to the collision.
