Six Arrested In Hyderabad For Using Dating App To Target And Rob Men
Six arrested in Hyderabad for luring men via app, abducting and robbing them.
Police in Hyderabad have arrested six members of a gang accused of using a gay dating application to lure men to isolated locations, where they allegedly assaulted and robbed them. The case came to light after a victim filed a complaint following an incident that occurred on April 6.
According to the complaint, the victim was contacted through the dating platform and asked to meet at a secluded spot. When he arrived and was waiting on the roadside, an unidentified man approached him under the pretext of asking for directions. The victim was then forcibly pushed into a vehicle and taken to an isolated area.
Once at the location, other members of the gang allegedly joined in the assault. The attackers reportedly beat the victim and stole a gold chain weighing around 15 grams before fleeing the scene. The victim later approached police, prompting an immediate investigation into the incident.

Senior police officials said special teams were formed to track down the suspects, and six accused individuals were arrested within four days of the complaint. One more suspect is currently absconding. The arrested individuals have been identified as Kusuma Karthik, Ram Raja, Bablu Singh, Kandula Sai Teja, Gandla Shravan, and Macharla Pawan Kalyan.
Investigators said the gang used a dating app, including contacts from platforms such as Grindr, to build trust with potential victims before arranging meetings. Police added that the suspects would take victims to isolated areas, assault them, and in some cases record videos, which were allegedly used to threaten and extort money or valuables.
Police recovered six mobile phones, a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire car, and a scooter believed to have been used in the crimes. Officials also stated that some of the accused have prior criminal records and that further investigation is underway to identify additional victims and possible links to similar offences in other areas. Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious while interacting with strangers on social media and dating platforms.
