Sharad Pawar Urges Maharashtra Govt to Act Swiftly on Teachers’ Protest for School Grants
The state must not shy away from its responsibilities,” he said, urging immediate financial allocations to support the education sector.
NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar on Wednesday pressed the Maharashtra government to take urgent action to address the ongoing protest by teachers from aided and partially aided schools at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai. Speaking to reporters after meeting the demonstrators, Pawar criticized the state’s delay in resolving the issue, which has persisted for four days during the monsoon session of the state legislature.
The teachers are agitating over the government’s failure to increase grants for their schools, despite prior announcements, and the practice of releasing funds in installments, which disrupts school management. “The state should issue orders resolving this within a day,” Pawar demanded, drawing on his 56 years of legislative experience. He dismissed unbacked financial orders as “fit for the dustbin” and stressed the government’s duty to ensure dignified lives for teachers, who shape future generations.
Accompanied by Lok Sabha member Nilesh Lanke and MLA Rohit Pawar, the NCP (SP) chief condemned the plight of teachers forced to protest in the rain for their rightful demands. “Teachers provide knowledge to society. The state must not shy away from its responsibilities,” he said, urging immediate financial allocations to support the education sector.
