Security Guard Injured as Assailants Open Fire at BJP Office in Maharashtra
Security guard injured in brazen firing incident.
Unidentified assailants launched a daring attack on the public relations office of BJP candidate Pawan Walekar in Maharashtra's Thane district late Wednesday night, resulting in a security guard sustaining injuries. The incident, which unfolded in the Ambernath area just days before the Ambernath Municipal Council polls on December 20, has heightened tensions amid an already competitive electoral atmosphere. CCTV footage captured the entire sequence, providing crucial evidence for authorities.
Two individuals on a motorcycle arrived around midnight at the office situated in the densely populated Navin Bhendi Pada locality of Ambernath West. They allegedly discharged three to four rounds toward the building before the security guards emerged upon hearing the shots. The assailants then reportedly directed additional fire at the guards, leading to one sustaining injuries. The guard is currently receiving medical treatment, while the attackers fled the scene immediately.
Authorities have registered a case against the unidentified perpetrators under applicable legal sections. Multiple investigation teams, including personnel from Ambernath and Badlapur police stations as well as the Crime Branch, have been constituted to analyze CCTV recordings and other technical evidence. Preliminary assessments indicate the firing may have been aimed at instilling fear and intimidation ahead of the elections.

The attack prompted an immediate response from BJP supporters, who assembled in large numbers at the Ambernath police station to demand prompt arrests and rigorous action against those responsible. Former BJP MLA Narendra Pawar highlighted alleged delays in police response despite previous warnings about potential threats. Party workers conducted a sit-in protest, underscoring concerns over safety during the poll campaign.
Security arrangements in the region have been significantly bolstered, particularly in light of a scheduled public rally to be addressed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Ambernath on the same day. Officials have affirmed that the probe is progressing actively, with all leads being pursued thoroughly, and assured that no individuals involved in the incident will escape accountability. The episode has underscored rising political frictions in the area as the local body elections approach
