Savannah Guthrie Turns to Faith in Emotional Video for Safe Return of Nancy Guthrie

Savannah Guthrie shares an emotional video plea for kidnapped mother Nancy.

TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie issued an emotional public appeal on Wednesday, urging those responsible for her mother’s disappearance to come forward, as authorities increasingly suspect foul play. Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been missing since Sunday, with investigators now leaning toward a kidnapping after discovering disturbing signs at her residence.

In a video message shared publicly, Savannah Guthrie addressed both her mother and the alleged abductors, referencing a ransom note that was reportedly sent to TMZ demanding money in exchange for Nancy’s release. The note has not been officially authenticated by law enforcement, but its contents have heightened concerns around the case.

Standing alongside her siblings Annie and Camron, Savannah turned to faith in her plea, directly addressing her mother. “Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman; you are God’s precious daughter Nancy,” she said, adding that the family believes God is with her “even in this valley.” She vowed that the family would not rest until they were reunited and said they were praying continuously for her safe return.

This is not the first time Guthrie has leaned on her faith during the crisis. A day earlier, she shared a message asking the public to pray, saying she believed in “voices raised in unison, in love, in hope,” and above all, in God. The message drew widespread support online, with many highlighting her expressions of Christian belief as a source of strength during the ordeal.

Public reaction has focused not only on Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance but also on Savannah’s faith-driven response. Social media users noted her reference to the biblical verse “pray without ceasing,” expressing hope that Nancy would be found safe. Guthrie, who grew up Baptist in Phoenix, has previously spoken about the role faith plays in grounding her perspective, even as she raises her children in an interfaith household with her Jewish husband.

Nancy Guthrie, who attends St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, was reported missing after she failed to show up for Sunday service. Authorities believe she may have been taken sometime after dinner on Saturday and before Sunday morning. The investigation remains ongoing, with police yet to release further details as they continue efforts to locate her safely.
