Samarth Singh Taken Into Custody In Dowry Death Case, Police To Seek Remand

Samarth Singh taken into custody in Twisha Sharma dowry death probe.

The husband of late model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma, Samarth Singh, was brought to Bhopal in the early hours of Saturday as police intensified their investigation into her alleged dowry death case. Officials confirmed that Singh will be produced before the court, where investigators are expected to seek his custodial remand for detailed questioning in connection with the case.

According to police sources, Samarth Singh, a lawyer and the son of former judge and Bhopal Consumer Court chairperson Giribala Singh, was taken to the Katara Hills police station around 2 a.m. He was brought under tight security by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Misrod ACP Rajnish Kashyap. Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar stated that the accused will be presented before the court and police will request remand for interrogation.

The case relates to the death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, who was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12. While her in-laws have claimed she was struggling with drug addiction, her family has alleged that she was subjected to dowry-related harassment, which they believe led to her death. The contrasting claims have intensified scrutiny and prompted a deeper criminal investigation.

Singh had reportedly been absconding for over a week after an FIR was registered against him and his mother. On Friday, he withdrew his anticipatory bail application filed before the Madhya Pradesh High Court and later surrendered at a district court in Jabalpur, where he was subsequently arrested outside the premises. His transfer to Bhopal marks a key development in the ongoing investigation.

Police officials stated that the investigation is still underway and that statements of key individuals, including Singh’s mother, Giribala Singh, are yet to be recorded. Authorities had earlier issued multiple notices for her appearance, and officials said her statement will be recorded at the earliest opportunity. The state government has also recommended a CBI probe, though police confirmed that the local investigation will continue until any formal takeover is notified.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notice on petitions seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted earlier by a Bhopal court, with proceedings scheduled for further hearing in the coming days. The case continues to draw significant public and legal attention as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death.
