Sam Altman's Home Shot at For Second Time in Days — Two Suspects Arrested in San Francisco

Gunshots were fired at Sam Altman's San Francisco home just three days after a Molotov attack.

Sam Altman, the chief executive of OpenAI, was targeted in a second attack at his residence in the Russian Hill neighbourhood after gunfire was reported early Sunday morning. According to local police, an assailant allegedly fired multiple rounds at the property from a moving vehicle, raising fresh concerns over the safety of one of the most influential figures in the global technology space. The incident comes within days of a previous attack, intensifying scrutiny over security arrangements.

Officials from the San Francisco Police Department confirmed that two suspects — Amanda Tom, 25, and Muhamad Tarik Hussein, 23 — have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Preliminary investigations revealed that a Honda sedan circled the residence at least twice before the passenger opened fire at around 1:40 a.m. Authorities relied on CCTV footage, eyewitness testimony from on-site security personnel, and vehicle tracking systems to quickly identify and detain the suspects.

Law enforcement agencies stated that three firearms were recovered from the accused during the arrest, and the vehicle used in the attack has been seized for forensic examination. Investigators are currently probing the motive behind the incident, including whether the suspects had any direct grievances or ideological motivations linked to Altman’s work in artificial intelligence. Officials have not yet disclosed whether the attack was premeditated or part of a broader pattern of targeted threats.

The shooting follows a separate incident on April 10, when a Molotov cocktail was hurled at Altman’s residence, causing minor damage to the exterior gate before being extinguished by security staff. In that case, a 20-year-old suspect from Texas was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including attempted murder and arson. Authorities also revealed that the individual had allegedly threatened to target OpenAI’s headquarters, indicating a potential escalation in hostility toward the company.

Responding to the incidents, Altman addressed the public through a blog post, acknowledging the growing anxieties surrounding artificial intelligence and its rapid advancement. While he said concerns about the technology are understandable, he urged critics to engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to violence. The back-to-back attacks have sparked wider debate about the risks faced by prominent tech leaders, as discussions around AI ethics, regulation, and societal impact continue to intensify globally.
