₹5.2 Crore Insurance Murder Scam Foiled Within 24hrs in Hospet

Gang kills paralyzed man and stages fake accident.

In a chilling crime driven by greed, a six-member gang in Hospet, Karnataka, orchestrated the murder of 34-year-old Gangadhar to fraudulently claim his Rs 5.2 crore life insurance policy. The perpetrators killed the partially paralyzed man, staged his death as a hit-and-run accident by placing his body on a two-wheeler and ramming it with a car, and even had a female accomplice impersonate his wife to file the insurance claim. However, the meticulous investigation by the Vijayanagara police led to the gang’s arrest within 24 hours, exposing their elaborate deception.

The incident came to light on September 28, 2025, when authorities received a call at 5:30 AM reporting a hit-and-run on Sandur Road. Vijayanagara Superintendent of Police S. Jahnavi stated, “We visited the spot, followed all procedures, and shifted the body. After confirming the identity of the deceased, we contacted his wife, Sharadamma, a resident of Kaulpet in Hospet, who filed a complaint.”

Sharadamma revealed that she and Gangadhar had been married for six years, and he had suffered a stroke three years prior, resulting in paralysis on the left side of his body. A critical detail raised immediate suspicion: Gangadhar did not own a two-wheeler, contradicting the staged accident’s narrative. “This discrepancy prompted us to investigate further,” SP Jahnavi noted.

The police swiftly unraveled the plot, discovering that the gang had learned of Gangadhar’s substantial life insurance policy and devised a plan to exploit it. After murdering him, they transported his body to the outskirts of Hospet, placed it on a two-wheeler, and collided it with a car to simulate an accident. A woman named Huligemma, a gang member, posed as Sharadamma to file the insurance claim, aiming to secure the Rs 5.2 crore payout.

Within 24 hours of the complaint, the police arrested all six gang members, including Huligemma, and seized the car and two-wheeler used in the crime. The rapid resolution of the case underscores the authorities’ efficiency in dismantling the fraudulent scheme and bringing the perpetrators to justice. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the lengths to which criminals may go for financial gain and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in protecting citizens.
