RRU To Host Five-Day BRICS Training Programme From September 7

Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in Gandhinagar will host a five-day BRICS capacity-building programme on combating money laundering and terrorist financing from September 7 to 11. The programme will bring together policymakers, financial intelligence and supervisory authorities, law-enforcement agencies and prosecution officials from BRICS member states. It is being organised as part of India’s BRICS Chairship 2026.

Titled “Emerging Risks, FATF Methodologies & BRICS Best Practices”, the programme is being organised by RRU, an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with the FATF Cell of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance. The sessions will focus on anti-money laundering (AML) and countering the financing of terrorism (CFT), with attention on emerging financial crime risks and evolving international standards.

The programme will examine challenges arising from the growing use of technology, increasingly complex financial networks and the cross-border movement of illicit funds. Participants will attend expert-led sessions, country presentations and interactive discussions covering Financial Action Task Force (FATF) methodologies and practical approaches to strengthening national AML and CFT frameworks.

The initiative will also emphasise peer learning, operational knowledge-sharing and professional networking among institutions from BRICS countries. RRU has indicated that the programme is intended to strengthen institutional cooperation and technical capabilities for preventing, detecting and investigating financial crime, particularly as illicit financial flows increasingly operate across national jurisdictions.

The training programme comes ahead of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 11 to 13. The programme will therefore form part of India’s wider BRICS Chairship activities aimed at promoting technical cooperation and institutional linkages among participating countries on financial crime and security-related issues.

RRU has previously conducted international capacity-building programmes in areas including financial crime, cybersecurity, policing and forensics. The university has organised specialised training programmes involving participants from several countries and has also conducted financial crime and money laundering courses under international cooperation initiatives. The inaugural session of the BRICS programme is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on September 7 at the RRU campus in Gandhinagar, with the programme continuing through September 11.
