In a stroke of incredible fortune, Vinita Gond, a resilient tribal woman from Rajpur village in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district, has unearthed three precious diamonds at her leased mine in the Pati area. The discovery, announced by Panna diamond officer Anupam Singh, could transform her life, with the gems potentially fetching several lakh rupees at auction.
The diamonds, weighing 1.48 carats, 20 cents, and 7 cents respectively, were found during routine mining operations. "One stands out as gem quality – the highest grade, prized for its clarity and brilliance – while the other two are of slightly lower quality but still valuable," Singh explained. They will soon be auctioned, revealing their true market worth.
Vinita, who ventured into diamond mining with a group of associates after securing a lease from the diamond office, embodies the spirit of empowerment in one of India's most challenging terrains. Panna, often called the "Diamond City," is renowned for its alluvial diamond mines, where locals sift through riverbeds and soil for these elusive treasures.
