Rajasthan BJP Leader Ramesh Inani Shot in Broad Daylight; Assailant Escapes on Bike
Ex-BJP leader Ramesh Inani shot and critically injured by bike-borne attacker in Chittorgarh.
In a shocking incident that has gripped Chittorgarh with fear, former BJP leader Ramesh Inani sustained severe bullet injuries after being shot by an unidentified assailant on a motorcycle Tuesday morning. The attack occurred in the bustling Kotwali police station area near the City Petrol Pump, where Inani was reportedly travelling on his scooter for work. Police said the attacker, wearing a helmet, fired two bullets at close range before speeding away.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Manish Tripathi, the assailant had been trailing Inani for several minutes before overtaking him and opening fire. “One bullet pierced through his back, and the other hit his leg, causing him to collapse on the road,” said Tripathi. Local witnesses rushed the injured leader to the district hospital, from where he was later referred to Udaipur for advanced treatment due to the critical nature of his injuries.
CCTV footage from the area captured the harrowing sequence of events, showing the attacker’s motorcycle moving away moments after the shots were fired. Police teams have begun analysing the video to identify the suspect and his escape route. While the bike’s number plate appeared blurred, a technical team has been tasked with enhancing the footage and tracing the vehicle’s registration details.

Authorities are investigating all possible angles behind the attack, including personal enmity and business rivalry. Ramesh Inani, who previously served as BJP city secretary from 2019 to 2022, is also known locally for running a courier business. His dual presence in political and business circles has prompted police to widen the scope of inquiry. “We are leaving no angle unchecked and are confident the accused will be arrested soon,” SP Tripathi added.
As news of the attack spread across Chittorgarh, panic and outrage followed. Local MLA Chandrabhan Singh Akya visited the hospital to meet Inani and urged authorities to ensure swift justice. The incident has raised fresh concerns over law and order in the region, prompting police to intensify patrolling and deploy additional personnel across sensitive urban zones. The investigation remains ongoing, with multiple police units coordinating to locate the gunman.
