Two Arrested For Hitting Vande Bharat Express Window With Liquor Bottle in Salem

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested two persons in connection with an incident involving the pelting of an empty liquor bottle at the Madurai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express in Salem. The incident occurred while the train was travelling between Mallur and Salem, when the bottle struck the window glass of an air-conditioned coach. No passenger was injured in the incident, according to the Salem Railway Division.

The incident involved Train No. 20671, which was operating between Madurai and Bengaluru. According to the railway authorities, an object hit the window of the coach while the train was passing through the section on August 23. The object was subsequently identified as an empty liquor bottle, prompting the RPF to begin an investigation to determine how it had reached the moving train.

A case was registered at the RPF Salem Post under Section 153 of the Railways Act in connection with the incident. The provision deals with acts that endanger the safety of persons travelling by railway by placing or throwing objects on railway tracks or other related acts. Following the registration of the case, railway authorities initiated efforts to identify the individuals allegedly responsible.

A special team was formed under the supervision of the RPF Inspector, Salem, following directions from the Divisional Security Commissioner, Salem. The team conducted an inquiry into the incident and worked to identify those suspected of throwing the bottle. The investigation eventually led to the arrest of two persons on Wednesday.

During questioning, the accused reportedly told the RPF that they had thrown an empty liquor bottle onto the railway track. According to the account provided during the inquiry, the bottle was subsequently struck by the moving train and projected towards the window of the coach. The impact caused the bottle to hit the window glass, although no passenger sustained injuries.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with throwing objects near railway tracks and moving trains. Even an empty bottle placed or thrown onto a track can become dangerous when struck by a high-speed train and propelled towards coaches. The RPF investigation is continuing as the authorities proceed with the case registered in connection with the incident.
