Punjab’s aggressive 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' (war against drugs) campaign has led to the arrest of 22,377 narcotic smugglers in just 138 days, officials reported on Friday. In a statewide operation on Thursday, Punjab Police apprehended 113 smugglers, seizing 1.5 kg heroin, 5 kg opium, and 31,237 intoxicant pills.
Over 180 police teams, involving 1,300 personnel under 93 gazetted officers, raided 433 locations, registering 81 FIRs and checking 483 suspicious individuals, said Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla. A five-member cabinet subcommittee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, oversees the campaign, which employs a three-pronged Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP) strategy to eradicate drugs.
The sustained effort underscores Punjab’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and ensuring public safety through relentless action against smuggling.
