Punjab Police Recover 30.672 Kg Heroin In Ferozepur, Arrest Three Youths

The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Punjab Police arrested three youths in their 20s and recovered 30.672 kg of heroin in Ferozepur, officials said on Tuesday. Police alleged that the contraband had been smuggled into India from Pakistan using a drone.

The arrested suspects were identified as Anmolpreet Singh alias Anmol, 24, of Kasuri Gate in Ferozepur; Akash Singh alias Akash, 22, of Gulam Pattra village; and Anshpreet Singh alias Ansh, 25, of Raj Ghat in Ferozepur. A Hyundai Verna bearing registration number PB-77-5973, allegedly used in the smuggling operation, was also seized.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation indicated that the consignment was sent across the International Border by a foreign-based drug smuggler. It was allegedly received by an Indian smuggler near Ali Ke village in Ferozepur before being moved for further transportation and distribution.

According to Additional Director General of Police, ANTF, Nilabh Kishore, the arrests followed intelligence inputs about the movement of a large consignment of contraband after its retrieval. ANTF teams led by SP, ANTF Ferozepur Range, Gurinderbir Singh, intercepted the suspects on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road while they were travelling in the Hyundai Verna.

The latest seizure comes days after the Punjab Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), arrested two people and recovered 30.200 kg of heroin in a separate operation targeting a cross-border narcotics network. Police are now examining whether the latest case is connected to a wider smuggling operation and are working to identify those involved in its supply chain.

A case has been registered at the ANTF police station in SAS Nagar under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police said further arrests and recoveries are possible as the investigation continues, with efforts underway to establish the alleged backward and forward links of the network.
