Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence Unit, Jalandhar, arrested Himanshu Sood, a key operative of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, on Tuesday, thwarting a targeted killing plot orchestrated from Dubai, said DGP Gaurav Yadav. Sood, from Phagwara, Kapurthala, was acting under orders from Namit Sharma, a close aide of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Details of Arrest: Acting on human and technical intelligence, police recovered two pistols (.30 bore PX3 with four cartridges and .32 bore with three cartridges) from Sood. He was involved in a recent shooting at a Haridwar hotelier and had orders to target individuals in Madhya Pradesh and Kapurthala. An FIR was filed at Amritsar’s State Special Operation Cell, with investigations ongoing to uncover further connections.
Gang Context: The Bishnoi gang, with over 700 members across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Maharashtra, is linked to high-profile crimes like the 2022 Sidhu Moose Wala murder and the 2024 Baba Siddique killing. Operating from Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail, Bishnoi uses VoIP and “Dabba Calling” to manage operations, with aides like Goldy Brar and Anmol Bishnoi coordinating from abroad.
