Punjab Man Strangles Minor Girl, Burns Body in Forest to Destroy Evidence

A shocking murder case has emerged from Punjab's Nawanshahr, where a 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a teenage girl, stuffing her body into a suitcase, and setting it on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. The victim, a 15-year-old girl, had been missing since May 29, prompting her family to seek police assistance. Authorities have since launched a detailed investigation into the incident, which has sent shockwaves through the local community.

According to police, the victim's mother, Usha Rani, a resident of Garhshankar Road in Nawanshahr, approached the City of Nawanshahr Police Station after her daughter failed to return home. In her complaint, she alleged that an unknown person had lured the minor away under the pretext of marriage while she was away from home. Based on her statement, police registered a case and began searching for the missing girl.

As the investigation progressed, police identified Gurwinder Singh, also known as Gurpreet Gopa, a resident of Jadli village, as the prime suspect. According to investigators, the accused was known to the victim's family and was reportedly involved in a relationship with the girl's mother. Police said the suspect allegedly found the girl alone at her rented accommodation on May 29 and strangled her. Following the murder, he is accused of placing the body in a suitcase and transporting it to a forested area, where he allegedly set it on fire to conceal the crime.

Senior Superintendent of Police Tushar Gupta said investigators were able to trace the suspect through evidence gathered during the probe. The accused was subsequently arrested, and police recovered the victim's remains. The remains have been sent for forensic examination to establish further details regarding the murder and destruction of evidence. Authorities are continuing their investigation and are expected to file additional charges based on forensic findings.

The case has sparked outrage in the region due to the brutality of the crime and the age of the victim. Police officials have assured the family that a thorough investigation is being conducted and that all evidence will be examined to ensure justice. The accused remains in custody as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances leading up to the murder.
