Pune Mother Arrested for Murdering Infant Son Over Plans for Third Marriage

Pune woman Pooja Pawar arrested for murdering her 11-month-old son to remarry a third time.

Pune Rural Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly murdering her 11-month-old son and dumping his body in a well, nearly a month after the crime took place. The accused, identified as Pooja Ravindra Pawar, was taken into custody following a swift investigation by officials from the Ranjangaon MIDC police station.

According to police, the incident dates back to March 8, when Pawar allegedly killed her infant son, Yash, and attempted to destroy evidence by placing the body in a bag filled with stones before throwing it into a well. The crime remained undetected for weeks until authorities initiated a probe that led to key breakthroughs in the case.

Investigators revealed that Pawar, a resident of Bhambarde village in Shirur taluka, allegedly committed the crime due to personal motives. Preliminary findings suggest that she intended to marry for the third time and believed that the child from her second marriage would become an obstacle to her plans. Police are continuing to examine the circumstances and motive in greater detail.
