Pune Man Arrested For Avenging Father's Murder 23 Years Later

Pune Rural Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly orchestrating the murder of a person accused of killing his father more than two decades ago. Investigators said the case stemmed from a long-standing personal grudge dating back to 2003, when the accused's father was allegedly murdered. Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.

The victim, identified as Sanjay Baburao Kadu-Deshmukh, was found dead near the old Katraj tunnel in Bhor tehsil on July 11. According to police, he sustained multiple injuries inflicted with a sharp weapon. Following the discovery of the body, Rajgad Police registered a murder case and launched an investigation to identify those responsible.

Officials from the Pune Rural Police Local Crime Branch said technical evidence led investigators to two primary suspects, Manthan Vaidya and Saurabh Pardeshi, who were detained on July 14. During questioning, police alleged that the duo confessed to committing the crime with the assistance of two other accused, identified as Mizan Shaikh and Sandip Kori. Authorities are continuing to investigate the roles of all four individuals.

According to the investigation, the alleged motive for the killing traces back to an incident in 2003, when Kadu-Deshmukh was accused of murdering Manthan Vaidya's father, Dinesh Vaidya, following a minor dispute. Police said Manthan was only six months old at the time of his father's death and had allegedly harboured resentment over the incident for several years before planning the attack.

Assistant Police Inspector Chetan Machale said investigators believe the accused conspired over time to target Kadu-Deshmukh. Police also stated that the victim was out on bail in another criminal case when the alleged murder took place. Officials are examining evidence, witness statements and other material collected during the course of the investigation.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and police are continuing their inquiry to establish the full sequence of events and the involvement of each suspect. Authorities have not announced any additional arrests, and further legal proceedings will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
