Professor Details Strange Behavior of Doctor Under Probe in Faridabad Terror Investigation
Lucknow doctor Shahin Shahid linked to JeM women’s wing and Red Fort terror module.
A Delhi Police investigation has revealed that Shahin Shahid, a Lucknow-based doctor arrested in connection with the massive explosives haul in Faridabad, was allegedly working to establish the Indian branch of the women’s wing of the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). According to sources, Shahid was operating covertly to grow the Jamaat ul-Mominaat network, led by JeM founder Masood Azhar’s sister, Sadia Azhar, in Pakistan.
The revelations follow a sweeping counterterror operation linked to the Red Fort blast that killed 12 people in Delhi on Monday. Investigators say Shahid had been in contact with Kashmiri doctor Muzammil Ganaie, alias Musaib, who was arrested after 2,900 kg of explosives were recovered from his rented rooms in Faridabad. Police seized an assault rifle, a pistol, and ammunition from a Maruti Swift registered under Shahid’s name, strengthening suspicions of her direct involvement in the terror module.
At Al-Falah University in Haryana, where Shahid worked as a teacher, colleagues said her behavior had long been a subject of concern. A senior professor told NDTV that Shahid frequently broke protocol, often leaving campus without notice. “Many people used to come to meet her. Her behavior was often strange, and complaints had been made to the management,” the professor said, requesting anonymity. The university administration has promised full cooperation with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), now heading the probe.
Calls have grown within the university for a detailed review of Shahid’s academic records and employment background. Faculty members claimed they had “never suspected her in this manner,” but in hindsight, found her interactions and absences unusual. Investigators are now tracing her financial transactions and communication history to identify her network within India and abroad.
Police sources confirmed that Shahid’s arrest has helped uncover a larger nexus of “white-collar operatives” linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed’s subcontinental operations. The Faridabad explosives seizure and Shahid’s connection to Ganaie are believed to be directly tied to the suicide bombing near Delhi’s Red Fort. The NIA is now focusing on whether Shahid and her associates were planning more attacks in the National Capital Region.
