President Murmu Begins Three-Day Jharkhand Visit with Cultural and Academic Events

President Droupadi Murmu arrives in Jharkhand for three-day visit amid tight security and minor scooter incident speculation.

President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Jharkhand on Sunday for a three-day visit, during which she is scheduled to attend key events in Jamshedpur, Gumla, and Ranchi. She was received at Birsa Munda International Airport by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Chief Minister Hemant Soren before proceeding to Lok Bhavan in Ranchi, where she will stay overnight.

On Monday, the President is set to visit Jamshedpur to participate in the closing ceremony of the centenary celebrations of the Ol Chiki script of the Santali language and to address the 15th convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT). She will also pay tribute to Pandit Raghunath Murmu by garlanding his bust. Senior dignitaries, including Union Minister Juel Oram and Padma Shri recipient Kalipada Soren, are expected to attend.

On Tuesday, President Murmu will travel to Gumla to address an interstate folk cultural gathering, with high-level officials from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and the Union government present. She will conclude her visit with a programme in Ranchi before returning to New Delhi.

Massive security arrangements were put in place across all cities, including a 200-metre ‘no-fly zone’ around key areas in Ranchi from December 28 to 30. Authorities confirmed strict measures for drone, paraglider, and hot air balloon activity to ensure the President’s safety.

A minor scare occurred when a scooter was spotted near Kishorganj on the highway, causing brief speculation about a possible security lapse. Police later clarified that the scooter rider was a Special Branch officer on duty, and the President’s convoy was never at risk.

Authorities emphasised that the President’s security remained fully intact throughout her visit, and the incident was a precautionary measure. The remainder of the trip is expected to proceed smoothly, with President Murmu engaging in cultural, educational, and public events aimed at promoting heritage and regional development.
