Police Probe Suicide Of International Kabaddi Player's 23-Year-Old Wife In Haryana

The 23-year-old wife of international kabaddi player Sheelu Balhara was found dead at the couple's residence in Haryana's Rohtak district on Friday, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are treating the case as an alleged suicide, though officials have said the exact reason behind her death has not yet been determined. A forensic team examined the scene after local police were informed, and further investigation is underway.

Muskan, a resident of the Meham area in Rohtak district, married Sheelu Balhara in December 2023. The couple welcomed their son, Hardik, in November last year. According to police, officers reached the residence soon after receiving information about the incident and secured the area before beginning preliminary inquiries. The body was taken for a post-mortem examination, the findings of which are expected to help investigators establish the circumstances leading to her death.

Officials said forensic experts collected evidence from the house as part of the investigation. Police are also expected to record statements from family members and others who may have information relevant to the case. So far, investigators have not announced any evidence pointing to a specific motive, and no official conclusion has been reached regarding the events that preceded the incident. According to media reports, Muskan had shared a reel featuring a Punjabi song on social media a day before her death. However, police have not indicated whether the post has any connection to the incident. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under examination.

Sheelu Balhara is a well-known name in Indian kabaddi and has represented the country at the international level. News of the incident has shocked members of the sporting fraternity and residents of Rohtak, with condolences pouring in for the bereaved family. Neither Balhara nor his family has issued a public statement regarding the incident. Police have also not confirmed whether any family members have been formally questioned, stating only that the investigation is progressing according to established legal procedures.

The incident comes just days after another alleged suicide involving a married woman drew attention in neighbouring Uttarakhand. Government school teacher Srishti Kandhari was found dead in Dehradun, with her family alleging that she had faced mental and physical harassment over dowry demands by her husband and in-laws. Police are investigating those allegations separately. While both incidents have emerged within a short span of time, authorities have emphasised that they are unrelated cases and should be treated independently based on evidence gathered during their respective investigations.

Police said additional details in the Rohtak case will be made public after the post-mortem report, forensic analysis and witness statements are reviewed. Until then, officials have appealed to the public and social media users to avoid circulating rumours or drawing conclusions that could hamper the investigation or cause further distress to the family. The inquiry remains ongoing, and authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken if any evidence of wrongdoing emerges.
