Police Probe Blackmail Allegations After Gang Rape Survivor Dies By Suicide
Police are investigating blackmail allegations linked to the survivor’s death by suicide.
A 20-year-old woman in Haryana’s Nuh district, who was allegedly subjected to gang rape and prolonged blackmail, died by suicide after facing sustained mental harassment, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place in a village under the jurisdiction of the Bichhor police station and has triggered outrage among local residents and the victim’s family.
According to police officials, the woman’s family accused four young men from the same village of gang-raping her and recording the assault on video. The family alleged that the accused repeatedly threatened to make the video public, leading to continuous blackmail and emotional distress for the survivor over an extended period.
Police said the woman allegedly took the extreme step on Tuesday night after struggling with fear, humiliation and mental pressure linked to the alleged threats. Her family later approached the police and filed a formal complaint against the four accused men, following which an FIR was registered at the Bichhor police station.

The incident has sparked anger in the village, with residents and family members demanding immediate arrests and strict legal action against those named in the complaint. The family has alleged that the persistent intimidation and fear of social defamation pushed the young woman to suicide.
Inspector Rajbir Singh, SHO of Bichhor police station, said multiple police teams have been formed to investigate the case. “After the post-mortem, we handed over her body to the family. Four special police teams, including the cybercrime team, are investigating. Police are also investigating when the video was made, who accessed it, and how long the blackmailing scheme has been ongoing,” he said.
Police officials said efforts are underway to trace the accused and examine all digital evidence related to the alleged video and blackmail. Authorities added that every aspect of the case is being investigated and arrests are expected soon.
