Police Probe Alleged Child Abuse At Capgemini Daycare;1 Arrested Other Absconding
Police investigate alleged abuse at Bengaluru corporate daycare centre.
A 55-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the alleged abuse of children at a daycare centre operating inside IT services firm Capgemini's Bengaluru campus, while another accused remains absconding, police said on Friday. The arrest comes days after videos purportedly showing incidents of child abuse surfaced online, triggering public concern and prompting a police investigation into the functioning of the daycare facility. Authorities said the probe is ongoing and that additional evidence is being examined.
The arrested woman has been identified as Vijayalakshmi. According to Inspector Suresh Reddy, she was produced before a court on Friday and remanded to three days of police custody for further interrogation. Police said another accused, identified as Manjula, has not yet been apprehended and remains absconding. Investigating teams have been deployed to trace her whereabouts, and officials said all efforts are being made to secure her arrest at the earliest. Investigators are also examining the roles of all individuals associated with the daycare to establish the sequence of events and determine accountability.
The First Information Report (FIR) in the case was registered on July 2, naming five staff members employed at the daycare centre. However, police clarified that three of the individuals named in the complaint were released after questioning because the evidence collected so far did not indicate their involvement in the alleged abuse. According to investigators, statements were recorded from the staff members and other relevant witnesses before the decision was taken not to keep them in custody. Officials stressed that the investigation remains open and that further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing probe and any additional evidence that emerges.

Police said the investigation has revealed that the video clips attached to the complaint were allegedly recorded by a former employee of the daycare centre. According to investigators, the individual had left the facility shortly before the footage surfaced online. Authorities are now verifying the authenticity of the videos and examining the circumstances under which they were recorded. Investigators are also working to establish when the alleged incidents took place and whether the footage accurately reflects the allegations made in the complaint. Digital evidence, witness testimonies, and other material are being scrutinised as part of the inquiry.
The case has highlighted concerns about child safety and oversight at daycare facilities, particularly those operating within large corporate campuses. While companies often provide childcare services as a workplace benefit for employees, such centres are expected to adhere to established safety protocols and maintain a secure environment for children. Police have not disclosed details about the children involved or the specific nature of the alleged abuse, citing the sensitivity of the matter and the need to protect the identities and privacy of minors. Authorities have also refrained from commenting on whether any regulatory violations by the daycare have been identified at this stage.
Officials said the investigation is continuing, with police collecting additional evidence, reviewing digital material, and recording statements from relevant individuals. The arrest of Vijayalakshmi marks the first major development in the case, while efforts to apprehend the second accused remain underway. Police said further legal action will be based on the outcome of the investigation, and appropriate charges will be pursued if supported by the evidence. Authorities have appealed for restraint in circulating unverified information online as the probe progresses.
