Police Investigate After Petrol Bombs Hurled At RSS Office In Ranchi

Police launched investigation after petrol bombs targeted RSS office.

An attempt was made to target a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Ranchi after unidentified individuals allegedly hurled petrol bombs at the premises during the early hours of Wednesday. Police said the attack failed to cause any damage to the office as the improvised devices did not reach the building. The incident has triggered a major investigation, with authorities examining surveillance footage and forensic evidence to identify those responsible.

According to police officials, the attack took place late Tuesday night when two unidentified youths approached the RSS office and attempted to throw petrol-filled bottles into the premises. However, both devices reportedly fell short of the boundary wall and failed to strike the building. The first petrol bomb became ineffective after its burning fuse detached and fell to the ground before ignition could occur. A second device was then thrown, but it also failed to reach the intended target, preventing any damage to the property.

Ranchi City Superintendent of Police Paras Rana said an investigation had been launched immediately after the incident came to light. He stated that preliminary findings suggest the involvement of two individuals and that efforts are underway to establish their identities. Several police teams have been assigned to the case, while experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have also been deployed to examine evidence collected from the scene. Authorities are treating the matter seriously given the nature of the target and the potential security implications.

Police have obtained CCTV footage from the vicinity of the RSS office, which allegedly shows two suspects attempting to carry out the attack. Investigators are analyzing the recordings frame by frame in an effort to identify the individuals and trace their movements before and after the incident. Officials are also gathering information from nearby establishments and residents to determine whether the suspects had conducted any reconnaissance of the area beforehand.

During the preliminary investigation, police found that the petrol bombs had been assembled using chili sauce bottles as improvised containers. Such makeshift incendiary devices are relatively easy to construct using commonly available materials, although their effectiveness often depends on how they are assembled and deployed. In this case, investigators believe the devices malfunctioned or were improperly thrown, resulting in the failed attack. No injuries were reported, and the RSS office remained unaffected.

The incident has raised concerns about security around organizational and political offices in the state capital. While police have not yet disclosed any motive behind the attempted attack, officials said all possible angles are being examined, including whether the act was intended as a symbolic gesture, an attempt at intimidation, or part of a larger plan. Security has been stepped up in the area as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have appealed to the public to share any information that could assist the investigation. Police expressed confidence that the suspects would be identified through a combination of forensic analysis, digital evidence, and witness accounts. As the probe continues, officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring accountability and maintaining law and order in the city.
