PM Modi Shares Photo With Xi Jinping, Putin At BRICS Summit In Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared photographs with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi, highlighting the presence of key leaders at the high-profile gathering. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto were also seen in the photographs shared by Modi. “BRICS Summit 2026 gets underway in Delhi,” the Prime Minister wrote in an Instagram post.

The summit began with Modi calling for the Global South to have a greater role in global decision-making. He said India was ready to provide policymakers from Global South countries with the expertise and training required to participate more effectively in international discussions. The gathering also witnessed the adoption of the Delhi Declaration, which included condemnation of terrorism and unilateral acts of war following intensive negotiations among member countries.

Modi said the discussions had been productive and positive, adding that no member had expressed disagreement with the outcome. The consensus came despite differences among the participating countries on several contentious international issues. Putin had arrived in Delhi early on Friday, while Xi reached the capital later in the day for the BRICS gathering.

Before the summit, Modi held a bilateral meeting with Putin on Friday evening. The two leaders discussed cooperation across several areas, including political and economic relations, defence, energy, space, skill mobility and people-to-people ties. They also exchanged views on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the situation in the Black Sea region, with Modi stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the way forward for resolving conflicts.

Modi’s meeting with Xi is expected to cover a range of issues, including the situation along the Line of Actual Control, trade, investment and broader economic engagement. The border issue is likely to remain an important part of discussions as India and China seek to build on recent efforts to stabilise bilateral relations. Xi, in his address to BRICS leaders, said the ongoing war in the Middle East did not serve the common interests of the international community.

The leaders’ presence together in Delhi comes at a time of significant geopolitical tensions and makes the BRICS summit an important platform for discussions on global conflicts, economic cooperation and the role of developing nations. The photographs shared by Modi also underline the high-level participation at the summit, with leaders from major emerging economies gathering in the Indian capital for discussions on shared international and regional concerns.
