PM Modi and Putin Seal Ambitious Economic Deal Aiming for 2030 Milestones

India and Russia to accelerate economic ties and work towards Free Trade Agreement by 2030.

India and Russia have taken a significant step toward strengthening their longstanding partnership, agreeing on an ambitious Economic Cooperation Programme for 2030. Both nations are actively working toward the early conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union, signaling a major boost in bilateral trade.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted several key sectors for collaboration, including urea production, civil nuclear energy, and shipbuilding. Strategic connectivity projects such as the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), the Northern Sea Route, and the Chennai–Vladivostok Corridor are also set to gain momentum, enhancing trade and logistical efficiency between the two countries.

In a unique initiative, both nations plan to train Indian seafarers for operations in polar waters, underlining their commitment to expanding maritime cooperation. Additionally, India and Russia aim to collaborate on critical minerals to create diversified and resilient supply chains, strengthening economic security for both sides.

PM Modi emphasized the historical depth of India-Russia ties, calling the relationship a “pole star” amidst global challenges. He stressed that despite international uncertainties and crises over the past eight decades, the partnership has remained steadfast, reflecting mutual trust and shared strategic interests.

Addressing global security concerns, Modi reaffirmed joint efforts to combat terrorism. He cited past attacks in Pahalgam and Crocus City Hall, noting that both nations share the belief that terrorism is a direct assault on humanity. Modi underlined that global unity against terrorism is paramount for lasting peace and stability.

The high-profile visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to New Delhi marked his first to India in four years. Both leaders highlighted the importance of the bilateral relationship, signaling an intent to strengthen ties despite global geopolitical pressures and shifting international dynamics.
