PM Modi Addresses Nari Shakti Sammelan, Emphasises Women In Governance

PM Modi stresses stronger women’s role in governance and implementation of reservation law.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the national “Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan” at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, where discussions focused on strengthening women’s representation in decision-making roles across governance and public life.

The event brought together women from diverse fields including science, academia, entrepreneurship, media, and social sectors, reflecting what officials described as a broad convergence of talent and experience. The gathering formed part of the government’s wider “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision, which places emphasis on women-centric development as a key pillar of national growth.

A central theme of the deliberations was the need to move beyond token representation and ensure that women have a meaningful and structural presence in leadership positions. Speakers and participants highlighted the importance of embedding women’s participation in governance structures from the grassroots level of village Panchayats to higher legislative bodies such as Parliament.

The discussions also underscored the implementation of the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,” a legislative measure aimed at providing one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The focus, according to participants, is now shifting from legislative approval to effective execution and real-world impact.

Officials noted that while the law was passed in September last year, efforts are underway to ensure its timely rollout across institutions. The upcoming special Parliament session scheduled for April 16 is expected to further deliberate on the nationwide implementation of the reservation framework, marking a significant step toward expanding women’s participation in governance.

The Sammelan was described as part of a broader push to make governance more inclusive and reflective of India’s demographic composition, with an emphasis on integrating women more deeply into policy-making and leadership roles at all levels.
