Passenger Attempts To Open Cockpit Door Mid-Flight in Air India Express

Passenger Tries To Open Cockpit Door On Bengaluru-Varanasi Air India Flight Causing Scare.

An Air India Express flight from Bengaluru to Varanasi was thrust into a high-alert situation when a passenger allegedly attempted to open the cockpit door mid-flight, sparking fears of a potential hijack. According to multiple reports, the incident caused significant concern among the crew, but Air India issued a statement clarifying that the passenger “approached the cockpit entry area while looking for the lavatory.”

“We reaffirm that robust safety and security protocols are in place and were not compromised,” an Air India spokesperson stated, emphasizing that the matter was reported to the relevant authorities upon landing and is currently under investigation. While a report by the Economic Times claimed the passenger “even entered the correct passcode” for the cockpit door, prompting a pilot to intervene to prevent entry, this detail could not be independently verified.

The airline did not disclose further details about the passenger or the incident, and the investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances. Air India reiterated its commitment to passenger safety, noting that stringent security measures ensured no breach occurred.

This incident follows closely on the heels of another security-related disruption involving Air India. On September 21, 2025, an Air India flight from London to Delhi faced a two-hour delay after a passenger, whose boarding pass was stamped for entry, failed to board the aircraft. The individual reportedly wandered to the arrivals area instead of boarding, prompting the plane, which had begun taxiing, to return to the gate for security checks.

These back-to-back incidents highlight the challenges airlines face in maintaining stringent security protocols amid human errors or misunderstandings. As investigations continue, the focus remains on ensuring such events do not compromise passenger safety or disrupt air travel operations.
