Odisha Shocker: Congress Student Leader Arrested for Alleged Rape of Teen

Student leader’s arrest exposes hypocrisy in Odisha’s Congress

Udit Pradhan, president of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) in Odisha, was arrested by Mancheswar Police for the alleged rape of a 19-year-old engineering student in Bhubaneswar. The incident, which occurred on March 18, came to light after the survivor filed a complaint, detailing a chilling sequence of events.

The victim stated she met two friends at Master Canteen Chowk when Pradhan, introducing himself as the NSUI state president, joined them. After inappropriate touching in a car, the group moved to a hotel in Nayapalli. There, Pradhan allegedly offered her a spiked soft drink, causing dizziness. She lost consciousness and awoke to find Pradhan beside her, realizing she had been assaulted. He reportedly threatened her to stay silent, delaying her complaint until July 20.

The arrest, following an FIR at Mancheswar Police Station, has sparked controversy, especially as Congress has been vocal against the BJP-led government over rising crimes against women in Odisha. The BJP is expected to seize this opportunity to counter Congress’s narrative, highlighting the irony of the opposition’s stance. Police are investigating further, with Pradhan set to appear in court today.
