Nurse Ruksana’s Acid Attack Mastermind Arrested in Dramatic Encounter

In a chilling incident in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, the primary suspect in a brutal acid attack on a 38-year-old nurse, Ruksana, was apprehended following a dramatic police encounter on September 25, 2025. The attack, which took place on September 23 under the jurisdiction of Lohia Nagar police station, left the victim with severe injuries to her hands, and she is currently undergoing treatment at a local medical college.
Circle Officer Antariksh Jain revealed that the mastermind, Mahendra Kumar, alias Mahendra Prajapati, orchestrated the heinous crime by manipulating a minor to carry out the attack. "Mahendra offered the minor Rs 2,000 to throw acid on Ruksana," Jain stated, highlighting the calculated nature of the assault. While the minor was swiftly detained, Mahendra managed to evade capture until late Wednesday night.
Acting on a tip-off, police tracked Mahendra to the Jalalpur area. When confronted, the suspect opened fire on the officers, prompting retaliatory action. "He was injured in the exchange and subsequently arrested," Jain said. Mahendra is now receiving medical treatment under police custody. Authorities recovered a motorcycle used in the crime, a country-made pistol, a live cartridge, and a spent shell from his possession. A separate case under the Arms Act has been filed against him.

During interrogation, Mahendra confessed to a personal motive behind the attack. "He admitted to being in a prior relationship with Ruksana. When she distanced herself and stopped responding to his calls, he grew furious and planned the attack out of spite," Jain explained. The revelation has shocked the local community, raising concerns about personal vendettas escalating into violent crimes.
Ruksana, a dedicated nurse and mother of three, is fighting to recover from the traumatic ordeal. The incident has sparked outrage, with locals demanding stricter measures to curb acid attacks and ensure justice for victims. Police are continuing their investigation to uncover any additional accomplices or motives, vowing to bring all responsible parties to justice.
