No Terrain Tough Enough! Omar Abdullah Treks to Visit Ramban Victims
Omar Abdullah Stands with Ramban’s Flood and Landslide Victims Amid Devastation
In a stand of solidarity with the citizens of his state, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made a heartfelt visit to Ramban district on Tuesday, meeting families devastated by recent flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains and cloudbursts.
This marked his second trip in two days to assess the crisis, which has claimed three lives and caused widespread destruction.
Arriving by helicopter in Chanderkote, Abdullah, accompanied by political advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, trekked to the severely hit Seri area. Security and officials had a tough time as he walked sure-footed amongst the hillside.

He listened to affected residents, assuring them of comprehensive government support. Joined by Deputy Commissioner Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary, District Development Council chairperson Shamshad Shan, and MLA Banihal Sajad Shaheen, he later inspected damage in Ramban market. Abdullah is set to visit other impacted zones and chair a meeting to streamline relief efforts.
The calamity, which struck Sunday, has left Ramban—J-K’s critical link between Kashmir and Jammu—isolated, with the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway blocked for a third day. Debris, mudslides, and damaged infrastructure have stranded commuters and disrupted essential supplies. Abdullah, who trekked rugged terrain Monday to reach Kela Morh, described the destruction as “deeply distressing” and vowed relentless support for victims.
“The administration is working tirelessly to ensure safety and rehabilitation,” Abdullah said, expressing condolences and emphasizing solidarity. He addressed locals who halted his convoy, promising aid to rebuild lives.
Rescue and restoration efforts are in overdrive, with the Public Works Department, Border Roads Organisation, disaster response teams, police, and volunteers clearing debris round-the-clock. The government is tapping relief funds, including the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, to compensate affected families.
