CBI Says No New Accused Identified In Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy Case

CBI tells court no new accused in Viveka case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed a court that no new accused have been identified so far in the high-profile murder case of Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy, a former Member of Parliament and uncle of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The agency submitted its position during a recent hearing related to the ongoing investigation into the 2019 killing.

Vivekananda Reddy, a former minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress before later aligning with the YSR Congress Party, was found murdered at his residence in Pulivendula in March 2019. The case has remained politically sensitive due to the victim’s prominence and his close ties to the state’s powerful political family.

During the proceedings, the CBI told the court that the investigation had not revealed any additional suspects beyond those already named in earlier charge sheets. The agency said it continues to examine evidence and statements gathered during the probe but, at present, there are no fresh individuals being added as accused in the case.

The probe into the murder was initially handled by the state police before being transferred to the CBI following directions from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, amid demands for an independent investigation. Since taking over the case, the central agency has filed multiple charge sheets and questioned several individuals connected to the incident.

The case has attracted widespread attention in Andhra Pradesh politics, with rival parties frequently citing developments in the investigation during election campaigns and public debates. Allegations and counter-allegations among political leaders have added to the controversy surrounding the murder.

The court is expected to continue hearing arguments related to the progress of the investigation and other petitions linked to the case. Meanwhile, the CBI has maintained that its probe remains ongoing and that any further developments will depend on the emergence of new evidence or testimonies.
